ADF Completes Goodwill Baseball Tour
to Ghana
The ADF completed its historic
Goodwill Baseball Tour to Ghana (February 1st – 6th), where we
instituted a Little League program, donated baseball equipment, and
signed an agreement to build a baseball field at the University of
Ghana, Legon.
The tour was sponsored and
organized with the support of Major League Baseball (MLB), the New
York Mets, USAID, Delta Air Lines, US Embassy to Ghana, Little
League International, Spalding Baseball, Ghana Ministry of Sports,
Ghana Ministry of Tourism, Golden Tulip Hotel, TIGO Ghana, Irani
Brothers, and SportsNet New York.
MLB members of the delegation
were: New York Mets GM, Omar Minaya; Hall of Famer, Dave Winfield;
former manager and current ESPN analyst, Dusty Baker; former player
and MLB Vice President of On-field Operations, Bob Watson; former
player, Reggie Smith; former player, Al Jackson; and MLB Envoy, Tony
Torchia.
While in Ghana, the delegation
also watched exhibition baseball games played by Little and Senior
League teams, visited Elmina and Cape Coast Slave Forts, and was
specially hosted by Ghana’s Vice President, His Excellency Alhaji
Aliu Mahama and U.S. Ambassador to Ghana, Pamela Bridgewater. See
